MR I Tudor (June 9) saw fit to describe the facts quoted in my letter (June 2) as “misguided and inaccurate”. He might like to know that they came from the Office for National Statistics, Migration Watch, the Times and government annual Fisheries reports.

There was one error, for which I apologise. Due to an arthritic-finger mistyping, the 2015 EU French fishing quota for cod was overstated – it should have read 5,500 tonnes, while ours was 834 tonnes.

That error made absolutely no difference to my statement that our fishermen got a very raw deal from the EU over fishing quotas – resulting in a big reduction in our fishing fleet and considerable job losses.

I also quoted that our population has risen by 6million since the millennium – equivalent to the population of five cities the size of Birmingham.

Figures this week from the ONS show that last year there were more immigrants than ever – and we have no control over our borders for EU arrivals. With five more countries about to join the EU, this problem can only get worse.

There is only one solution to the loss of sovereignty the EU has given us – vote leave.
