Cllr Vernon Smith appears content with the service Gloucestershire residents get from Amey for highway services.

Is this the same company that painted new white lines on the A38 in Alkington, then returned within a fortnight to resurface the road?

The same company that resurfaced the road through Berkeley town centre and was digging it up again within the month?

Mr Smith argues employing staff directly would be too expensive.

Is this because Amey pays below the going rate for its workers?

How otherwise can this Spanish-owned company make a profit from this contract?

Bring the service back in-house, employ local people, and save on the cost of painting white lines around holes in roads.
