Re: Lister Hall ALAN Burgess suggested in last week's Gazette that hard choices need to be made with regard to investment of the Littlecombe Section 106 Development Fund on local amenities. He may be surprised to learn that the Lister Club Committee is in full agreement with his suggestion.

The issue of investment in the Lister Hall arose from completion of Vale Vision's Need and Demand Study carried out by reputable consultants throughout the local community earlier this year. That study identified the need for a large hall to serve specific community needs and to be available during the day as well as evenings. As a result, the Lister Club Committee were invited into discussions designed to identify a route by which the Lister Hall could be taken into community control.

If Dursley Community Centre or Rednock School can satisfy the identified needs of the community, investment in the Lister Hall would not be required. In which case, the hall would remain under the control of the Lister Club and would inevitably close at some point in the future, but not before an alternative facility is available.

Initially the Lister family, and latterly the Lister Club have been happy to operate the hall for everyone's enjoyment, but sadly the building is now over 80 years old and requires investment way beyond the capability of the Lister Club.

At no time has there been any request or suggestion that public funds should be made available to renovate the Lister Hall while it remains under the control of the Lister Club.

Hugh Tipper Chairman and Trustee of the Lister Club.
