ST Mary's Church in Thornbury will be holding a candlelit service of nine lessons and carols on Sunday, December 23.

Because of the architectural changes planned, this may be one of the last chances to see this beautiful church at Christmas in its original glory.

As a member of the church choir, it is a real privilege to sing this wonderful music in such a special building. It just breaks my heart when I hear talk of constructing glass screens and an office in the church. I really don't understand why the church needs another office; there already is one, in the tower.

As for glass screens, how would the church accommodate big community occasions like the Remembrance Day service or the Castle School carol service?

I think these changes would seriously damage the unique acoustics of the church. If they were to go ahead I really could not bear to attend concerts there or be part of the life of the church anymore.
