Find the money for arts

12:14pm Saturday 22nd December 2007

It is with astonishment that I read your correspondent's negative views on the attempts by ACT to create a new performance venue in Thornbury.

Bus 312

1:23pm Friday 21st December 2007

BLUE FOR THE 312 ANGRY. This is how I feel about the carve-up of this service. How can they justify cutting off Thornbury from its nearest train station and university? We are told to cut car miles and use public transport, yet at the same time there is to be a mere two-hour service at best.

Last chance to enjoy

12:11pm Friday 21st December 2007

ST Mary's Church in Thornbury will be holding a candlelit service of nine lessons and carols on Sunday, December 23.

Missing the point?

11:48am Wednesday 19th December 2007

The Managing Director of Barratt Homes, Mr Barry Wood seems to have missed the point of my letter (letters December 13).

Applause for ACT

11:27am Tuesday 18th December 2007

In response to your "name and address supplied" correspondent, may I say how much I applaud the vision and adventurous ambition of ACT (Arts and Community in Thornbury). Contrary to your corespondent's assertion, Thornbury Arts Festival do fill the Armstrong Hall when high calibre acts appear. To attract and accommodate great artists we need a great venue.

Safety first

1:23pm Friday 14th December 2007

IN RESPONSE to concerns raised with regards to the safety fence at Barratt's Bath Court development in E.M Forsythe's letter to the editor on November 29.

Sort out finance

1:19pm Thursday 13th December 2007

Your article about the proposed taxi-tokens' missed one very key point: the debate at the South Glos Council Meeting on November 21 revolved entirely around whether it was sensible to start committing large sums of money, at this time, when we have no information yet from the Government as to how much they will be allocating to us for next year, and no idea whether we shall even have the money.

Be realistic

1:16pm Wednesday 12th December 2007

Every week I am reading about how upset Thornbury residents are at the number of empty shops and the generally run-down appearance of the town centre. I also remember Thornbury as it was back in the 70s and it is depressing to see it now, and it is certainly much more difficult to do all of ones shopping locally than it used to be.

Bus cuts unworkable

12:59pm Tuesday 11th December 2007

I was interested to note the letters to the Editor in last weeks' Gazette, and I write following my attendance at the Local Area Forum Meeting on December 5, at which representations were made to councillors regarding the 312 service - and about other services that are to be cut as a result of council decisions. These decisions will severely impact on communities in Severn Beach and Pilning.

Support our town

12:21pm Sunday 2nd December 2007

I read, with interest, the various letters over the last couple of editions and thought it time I wrote to state more clearly the stance of the Thornbury Chamber of Trade vis-à-vis the retail "foot print" of Thornbury.
