SEAMSTRESS Elizabeth Shirley has pinned down the secret of success in local business.

Victoria Fabrics and Crafts in Wotton is this year celebrating its 15th year of trade and Elizabeth believes that this is something worth celebrating.

"Fabric shops are closing down all the time – we recently lost similar shops in Thornbury and Chipping Sodbury – and I think that the fact that we are still going strong after all this time is a real achievement,’ says Elizabeth.

"I started off with just fabrics and haberdashery and have diversified over the years. I now spend about half my time making curtains for people, as it seems that people are now more interested in doing up the homes they have, rather than moving.

"In the past I have made the curtains for the cinema, the masonic hall and the library at Rose Hill School."

Elizabeth intends to organise some special days at the shop to celebrate the anniversary and also plans to launch a website.

"I’m always busy, because I’m a one-man-band, but I’m happy to still be here. People are loyal and like to shop locally – not everyone wants to go to the Mall."
