GET ready for clowns and stilt walkers as a circus themed Dursley Festival approaches.

Following the success of the re-launched one day event last year the Dursley Festival is back, this time on Saturday, July 17.

For 2010 the organisers have run away with the circus and have decided to give the day a fun-filled theme with everything from juggling and hula-hooping to carnival dance and a traditional fairground.

The event will start in the town centre in the morning with food, arts and crafts stalls. Then at 1pm it will be all eyes on the parade, as the children’s procession makes it’s way through the town finishing at the recreation ground where the entries will be judged.

In the afternoon the Rec will be packed with activities, food, displays and entertainment.

An extra element this year will be The Big Tent run by the 3C Community Church, based in Cam.

Rev Noel Fellowes, of 3C, said: "We're really excited about The Big Tent Event. We've put together a great programme for people of all ages. We're also very pleased to be serving the community by working in partnership with Dursley Festival."

Dursley Rugby Club will be running a bar and Cam Family Butchers will be doing a Hog Roast.

Chino Odimba, one of the volunteer members of the Festival Committee said: "We work throughout the year to make the festival happen. This year we are hoping to have a festival that Dursley can be truly proud of.

"We are making sure that there is something for everyone; for example this year, we have created a dedicated area for children and young people with storytelling, graffiti workshops and even their own cafe.

"But the event cannot happen without the community and so it is really important that local residents and businesses get involved."

The event is still looking for stalls (food, art/crafts, community organisations, charities etc), creative people and circus artists to take part. If you would like to volunteer or run a stall at the Dursley Festival 2010 www.dursleyfestival.co.uk or call 01453 545880.
