A COMMUNITY rounders match between local police officers and teenage girls was hailed a big success.

The match, held in Cam, could become one of many after the success of the game on Tuesday, August 24 at Woodfield School playing field.

It was organised by Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Claire Silcox from the Dursley Safer Community Team, who was joined by ten other officers including superintendent Bridget Woodhall.

They played a group of 15 girls aged between eight and 14.

PCSO Silcox said: "We feel that it’s really important that young women get to know their local officers so that they feel confident in approaching us if they ever had a problem and we hope that the game helped to do this.

"It was such a fantastic day and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Our superintendent very kindly donated the money for us to get t-shirts for the girls and the local Sainsbury’s store even gave us a discount on food so the afternoon had such a great community feeling. I’m hoping to be able to run another game in the future."
