AN ECO-FRIENDLY community building is close to generating 20,000 units of electricity from its solar panels.
Members of Cam Memorial Hall’s committee will celebrate the achievement at an energy day for the whole community.
The solar panels were installed on the roof during an energy makeover in March last year. At the same time more insulation and draught proofing was added and a modern energy-efficient boiler installed at the building.
The upgrades were made with grants from the Government, EDF energy and the parish and district councils.
Cllr Keith Pearce, a member of the memorial hall committee and parish councillor, said: "Despite this winter being one of the coldest for years, the hall remained warm and received the lowest energy bills for many years."
To celebrate the milestone the hall is joining with Cam Parish Council and Severn Wye Energy Agency (SWEA) to hold the Cam Energy Event on Saturday, September 18, from 9am to around 2pm at the Memorial Hall.
Householders are invited to see the work that has been done on the hall and find out how they can reduce their energy bills.
The aim of the event is to help residents in Cam and Dursley and the surrounding areas to reduce their energy bills by understanding their energy usage, insulating their homes, using energy efficient equipment and by generating their own electricity.
Representatives of SWEA and the Vale Vision Energy Group will be there to provide impartial advice on the technology and the availability of grants.
A number of contractors ranging from boiler installers, solar power equipment providers, insulation experts to modern lighting expert have also been invited to have stands in the hall.
There will be displays of energy efficiency gadgets for the home, some for sale and some to give away.
