CONTESTANTS who took part in a reality show spin-off in Sharpness called I’m a Local Get Me Out Of Here! helped raise over £2,500 for charity.
The brave volunteers were zip wired into their camp during the event, organised by The Pier View Hotel.
The contestants then had to complete suitably horrible tasks in order to win food and beer between Thursday, August 12 and Sunday, August 15.
These included eating bugs, an assault course, archery, sitting in a coffin full of bugs for as long as possible, memory games, putting a hand into the box of unknowns and clambering through a small tunnel full of mud and water.
Visitors to the Pier View were able to see the action on a live video link from the base camp and voted for their favourite contestants – each vote raising money for local charities.
Geraldine Breen, events organiser at The Pier View, said: "The event was enjoyed by everyone and finally Vince Carter was crowned king of the jungle. He received a £100 cheque, which he donated back to the charity."
The money will be shared between local Sharpness organisations including the primary school and SARA.
