A SPECIAL fund has been created to help people celebrate the journey of the Olympic Torch through the district and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Stroud District Council is making £30,000 available to help not-for-profit organisations and schools bring local people together to take part in events that celebrate the two occasions.
Grants of between £100 and £1,000 will be available. Funding could be used, for equipment, professional artists or coaches or management fees or the cost of commissioning a new work of art.
Cllr Keith Pearson, cabinet member for regeneration for Stroud District Council, said: "Amidst the doom and gloom we are bombarded with every day, 2012 plays host to, not just one, but two major once in a lifetime events.
"With Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marking 60 years on the throne and the Olympic Torch coming to our district, we have an opportunity to help bring people together through community based events that encourage people to have fun and celebrate these occasions."
Further information and application forms are available at www.stroud.gov.uk The closing date for applications is Thursday, March 15 and grants must be spent by June 5 2012.
