THERE is to be no review of parking provision in Almondsbury.
The decision was made after the suggestion failed to win the support of villagers or the local parish council.
A parking review of lower Almondsbury had been put forward by the Severn Vale Area Forum, which is a meeting led by South Gloucestershire Council for local people to have the opportunity to talk about issues and concerns that affect their area.
Cllr Di Wilson, chairman of Almondsbury Parish Council, said: "South Gloucestershire Council proposed double yellows lines from the lay-by near the school right through to Sundays Hill, which just wasn’t appropriate.
"Almondsbury is a very busy village and parking is still a problem."
The lack of parking in Almondsbury became an issue a year ago when the village pub, The Bowl Inn, installed pay and display machines in its car park.
The machines caused outrage among villagers, in particular parents of pupils at Almondsbury Primary School who used the car park for the school run and were suddenly faced with a £1 charge for the privilege.
S A Brains Brewery, which owns the Bowl Inn, said it introduced the parking restrictions because parents' use of the car park was affecting business.
Last summer Cllr Sheila Cook, South Gloucestershire councillor for Almondsbury, co-ordinated an informal consultation asking residents whether they thought there was a parking problem in the village, if they thought a car park would solve the problem, and whether they had any suggestions on how to resolve the issue.
The consultation only received 43 responses, with all respondents agreeing that a car park was not needed or wanted in the village.
A South Gloucestershire Council spokesman said: "The local Area Forum suggested a review of parking facilities in Almondsbury to be included in the Local Transport Capital Programme for 2009/10.
"Almondsbury Parish Council objected to the parking review, therefore it will not be progressed."
