TEACHERS and pupils in Tortworth have been celebrating after receiving a good Ofsted report.
Tortworth Primary School, which has just 58 children, was visited by government inspectors for two days earlier this term. It was given a good Ofsted report with some outstanding features.
Martin James, the Ofsted inspector who led the visit, said in his report: "This is a good school where pupils achieve well. It also has some exceptional features that result in outstanding outcomes for pupils overall.
"Pupils greatly enjoy school and their behaviour and attitudes are exemplary. They felt safe and adopt exceptionally healthy lifestyles."
A good Ofsted is the second highest attainment level available to schools and means a school is serving its pupils well.
In the report Tortworth Primary was praised for the progress pupils make by the time they leave in year six, the range of after-school clubs available, the pupils’ contribution to the local community and the use of teaching assistants in classes.
The dedication and care of the teaching staff was also highlighted in the report, as was the strong relationship with parents, carers and governors.
The Ofted report said: "Adults provide the children with a good balance between teacher-led activities and chances for them to choose for themselves, and they take every opportunity to help them develop their various skills."
Susan Bishop, head teacher, said: "We are very pleased with the report and it is nice to have everyone’s hard work recognised.
"The children here are delightful and the staff work enthusiastically. Everybody enjoys being at Tortworth and I believe the report demonstrates that."
Tortworth Primary School was given just two areas to improve before its next inspection, to raise attainment in maths and increase pupils' understanding of cultural diversity.
