Mother turned caterer celebrates success of her Indian food company

A MOTHER from Thornbury who launched an Indian catering company just 18 months ago is riding high on success.

Romy Gill, 37, started Reenee Catering in 2008 from her family’s kitchen in Thornbury.

The mother-of-two began the company by giving cooking lessons at the Turnberrie's Community Centre and catering for dinner parties.

However, in just 18 months the company has gone from strength to strength.

At last month’s Thornbury Food Fair Romy launched her own range of jarred sauces, mango chutney, pickles and even spice mixes.

Romy said: "From talking to people in the lessons what they wanted were my sauces.

"You can already buy similar in the supermarket but they tend to contain a lot of preservatives, but with my products it is all natural preservatives.

"People are really aware of what is in their food at the moment and I am pleased that my food is all natural ingredients."

Romy is not just stopping at producing her line of sauces, as in the last year she has appeared on a cooking show for an Indian television network and also on UKTV.

The Indian chef is also planning to open her own restaurant in Thornbury, where she would be able to sell her products but also run a cookery school for local people.

"My passion is cooking and I am very fortunate that my passion has become my profession," she said.

Romy hopes to have her new restaurant up and running by end of the year.

Romy’s jarred sauces are available to buy at local farm shops and Riddifords in Thornbury.
