PEOPLE living in Almondsbury have said villages in the parish are slowly disappearing.

Almondsbury Parish Council has said it will look into the absence of village signs in certain areas of the parish, which should let motorists and visitors know when they are entering and leaving different villages.

Cllr Felicity Harper, from the parish council who lives in Compton Greenfield, said: "We are losing our villages. Compton Greenfield and Berwick don't have road signs.

"Once you leave Hallen you are in no man's land until you get to Easter Compton, even though you have passed through both Berwick and Compton Greenfield.

"There are directions to these places but you never seem to get there because there are no signs telling you, you have arrived."

Almondsbury parish is made up of Lower Almondsbury, Over, Woodhouse Down, Gaunt's Earthcott, Easter Compton, Compton Greenfield, Hallen, Berwick, Cribbs Causeway and Catbrain.

Cllr Di Wilson, chairman of the parish council, agreed that signage should be investigated so visitors could navigate their way around Almondsbury.

A South Gloucestershire Council spokesman said: "Requests for signage at the entrance and exits of settlements in South Gloucestershire are dealt with by the council’s transport services department. The requests would normally come via parish councils who would also be expected to fund the signs.

"All applications are examined according to their individual merits – we look forward to receiving this one."
