THE FUTURE of uniform supplier Alexandra Plc still hangs in the balance as administrators continue to work on finding a buyer.

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, which has been appointed administrator of the Thornbury-based company since the firm stopped trading on the Stock Exchange at the start of the month, said it was still working on finding a solution for the business.

The industrial clothing supplier has a depot in Midland Road, Thornbury, where 220 people currently work, and the company employs 500 staff nationally.

The firm hit trouble in 2009 when they reported losses of £11 million in the first six months of the year and two weeks ago it was confirmed the company had gone into administration.

PricewaterhouseCoopers said that it hoped to sell the business on as a going concern, but at the moment the company does not have sufficient money to continue trading on the stock market. They are continuing to work as usual at the factory.

A spokeswoman for PricewaterhouseCoopers said they were still "in discussions" with interested parties with a view to selling the businesses, but nothing had yet been resolved.
