THE number of new homes to be built in Yate and Chipping Sodbury is top of the agenda at a meeting next month.

South Gloucestershire Council’s area forum for Frome Vale, which meet regularly with members of the public to discuss issues affecting Yate, Sodbury, Dodington and Frampton Cotterell, is giving the issue priority.

Worried residents will be able to quiz councillors and authority officials on the 33,000 houses which have been recommended for the region by 2026.

Housing secretary of state Hazel Blears is investigating the numbers and is expected to make a final decision on the figures and exactly where the houses should go by Christmas.

She has already increased the number of homes for South Gloucestershire by 3,000 but did backtrack on thousands of homes recommended to be built on a flood plain in Chippin Sodbury.

The meeting takes place at Frampton Cotterell Primary School on Thursday, September 11 (7pm). All residents are welcome.

Other items to be discussed include this year’s capital grants allocations, and there will be the opportunity for residents to raise any other issues.
