Yate residents say they have had enough of peacock

A NOISY neighbour which has been tormenting residents in Yate for two years is being hounded out of town.

People living in Harescombe have been awoken at 4am every morning during the summer months by a roaming peacock.

Homeowner Robin Crick told the Gazette: "Every morning when the sun rises this thing goes off.

"It has been going on for two to three years everybody I have spoken to has had enough of it.

"I have retired so I could enjoy a lie in but the noise it makes is so loud it wakes the whole neighbourhood up."

The cawing culprit turned up several years ago and is regularly seen in the south Yate area.

Police are aware of the bird and the RSPCA has been informed but can take no action as the animal is not injured and there is no known owner.

Added Mr Crick, who used to work at Bristol Zoo: "It is okay during the winter because it gets light later in the morning but during the summer, when people have their windows open, it is a real problem.

"A peacock needs to be kept like a hen, so it should be put in a dark shed at night and not let out until it is light.

"That way it will not realise it is dawn and will not sound off."

Residents in the area are calling for the owner of the colourful bird to come forward so they can enjoy a good night’s sleep.
