POLICE have launched an investigation after a pensioner died following a suspected hit and run near Wick.
The man, in his 70s, was walking near Tog Hill when he was hit by a silver Porsche car. He suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened at 11pm on Sunday, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesman said: "Police immediately closed the road, pending a detailed examination of the scene by the road policing unit’s collision investigation unit.
"Officers have appealed for witnesses. They would like to hear from anyone who was on the A420 in Wick – Tog Hill area around the time of the collision, who may have information to help their enquiries.
"Anyone able to help is asked to contact Staple Hill CID on 0845 456 7000."
* A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at a collision and of causing death by dangerous driving.
