A LANDLADY in Yate is hoping to raise enough money to send Jordan Thorn and his family on the holiday they so desperately need.
Sheron Perks, who runs the Railway Hotel on Station Road, is organising a series of fundraising events to pay for teenager Jordan to enjoy a break from his cancer treatment.
Jordan, 15, was diagnosed with bone cancer 18 months ago after falling from a tree and breaking his leg.
The youngster, a pupil at Yate International Academy, is an avid football fan and was training with the Bristol Rovers youth academy.
Mrs Perks said: "We had wanted to send him and the family to South Africa for the World Cup this summer but that is not realistic because of Jordan’s intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
"Now I would just like to raise enough to give them all a holiday and enough money to live because at the moment they are just surviving."
Jordan has been in and out of hospital since his diagnosis and despite an operation last year, the cancer returned within two weeks.
His dad Tim, mum Vanessa and sister Carly, of Blakeney Mills, have always been at his side.
"If there is a family who deserve a bit of help it is this one," added Mrs Perks, who met the Thorn family when she and husband Harvey took over the Railway seven years ago.
"What they have gone through in the past 18 months is horrendous. Jordan is an adorable lad. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him and he just doesn’t deserve this.
"Everyone hits hard times but they are really struggling at the moment and I just feel I want to help them in any way I can."
Mrs Perks, who has lived in Chipping Sodbury all her life, is hoping to raise at least £5,000.
The Railway holds regular fundraising events throughout the year and in 2010 all money collected will go The Jordan Appeal.
The hotel is currently appealing for prizes and gifts from local companies and individuals for a promises auction in the near future. Call Sheron Perks on 07920 840098 with any offers of help.
