CINEMA-goers will soon have somewhere to watch films on the big screen in Yate.
Tiered seating is now being fitted in the upstairs of the Armadillo Youth Café on Station Road and a screen is already in place.
The 60-seater venue will start screening popular children’s, teen and adult showings later this month.
Margaret Lamb, South Gloucestershire Council’s area youth manager, told the Gazette: "The first thing we are going to do is introduce a Saturday morning cinema for junior school children.
"We hope that with the café’s proximity to the supermarkets it will be really popular and will also give younger children a chance to see inside the cinema."
Teen films will also be shown during regular cinema opening hours and on Saturday nights.
In the future the cinema may also host mid-week older film screenings and lunch for retired people and various club members as well as a pre-school showing for parents with young children.
"We will be offering very competitive prices as we hear a lot of teenagers can’t afford to go to bigger cinemas," added Margaret.
"We do have a certain amount we have to make per screening so we hope people will see the benefit of staying in Yate and will support their cinema."
Information about times and films will be published in the window of the Armadillo, on the www.myyate.co.uk website and on the cinema page of the www.yatearmadillo.co.uk website.
