OVER £3,200 has been raised so far by Santa visiting towns in his sleigh with help from the Dursley and District Round Table and he still has several stops to go.

The group are raising donations for a charity, which can be recommended by members of the public, by moving Santa around the streets behind a tractor.

Member of the Dursley and District Round Table, Toby Ford, said: “We are having a really successful year this year. We collected £627 last night, Wednesday, December 10 so now the total is over £3,200 with three nights remaining.

“The 2014 Santa’s sleigh collection run by Dursley and District Round Table is looking like being the most successful ever following the hard work of two people in particular and the great support from many other local individuals, organisations and companies.

"Following the disappointment that the sleigh was in a state of disrepair for 2013, Ian Walkley and James Bottger have worked together to build a new float from scratch.

"On the night so far there have been volunteers from Round Table, 41 club, Charlotte's Angels, World Jungle, ATC, Cam CC, Slimbridge CC plus other individuals who gave up their time to support this community event that brings both excitement to the children as well as raising funds to be donated."

Materials and equipment have been donated for the sleigh from Cullimores Organics, Timbernet of Stonehouse, Build-it, NS James Agricultural Engineer, KM Farm Parts, Travis Perkins of Stroud, Dursley Autos Dismantlers and North Sound Ltd.

The streets that will be visited by Santa are Springfield, Summerhayes, Norman Hill and Fairmead, who will meet at the top of Springfields on Thursday, December 11."

Woodfields and Broadmere will meet at the Yew Tree Inn on Friday, December 12. Sharpness will be Santa’s last stop on Saturday, December 13.

Santa will stop between 6pm and 8pm on all these dates.

Mr Ford added: "Thanks to the generosity of people from Slimbridge, Berkeley, Dursley and Cam to date, with Sharpness to come, over £2500 has been raised in the first five nights alone and with four nights to go it is looking like being a fantastic achievement by all those that have been involved and it will enable the Round Table to make further donations to local worthy causes.

"If you are interested in applying for a donation please submit your request for consideration by email to dursleyroundtable@gmail.com.  Equally, if you are interested in joining the Round Table please email your contact details and you will be invited to our next event."
