"YELLOW" weather warnings have been issued across the region.
The Met Office says that ice will be a hazard in places until 10am.
Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are possible.
This follows a spell of rain, sleet and snow last night, which saw a sudden fall in temperatures, allowing ice to form on untreated surfaces. Further showers of rain, sleet and snow are expected this morning, potentially diluting overnight treatments.
The Met Office's colour-coded weather warnings are intended to keep the public informed of the severity of conditions.
Yellow, the least dangerous of the warnings, means that severe weather is possible, and to 'be aware', and to plan ahead.
