OLVESTON'S school and church joined forces to put on their annual summer fete.

St Mary's Church and the primary school have pooled their efforts for the last few years to set up stalls and sideshows in the vicarage garden, the church and school grounds, which are walking distance apart.

Sarah Gingell, of the school's Friends group, said: "We had thunderstorms in the morning as people were putting up marquees so we went for our indoor plan.

"But we were lucky in the afternoon with the weather and the fete was very well attended, with more than 300 adults through the gate, as well as all the children."

Attractions at the event included performances by the Portishead Concert Band, the school's Olveston Singstars and its cheerleading group, as well as the Vibe dance team.

Tea and cake was served in the church, where several exhibitions were set up.

Proceeds from the day will be split between the church and school.
