BROWNIES celebrated the organisation's 100th anniversary as several groups joined together to take part in a special camping trip.

Girls from the 1st, 5th, 6th Thornbury and 1st Falfield and Stone Brownies took part in a camp at Woodhouse Park in Almondsbury.

The Big Brownie Birthday is a series of events arranged by Brownie groups from across the country to mark 100 years since the beginning of the organisation.

Held between Saturday, August 23 and Monday, August 25, more than 350 Brownies aged between seven and 10 took part in a range of activities from climbing to crafts to celebrate the occasion.

Each group made a special flag to represent their group and paraded from their sub camps in special brightly coloured t shirts to be welcomed by the Bristol and South Gloucestershire Girlguiding county commissioner.

Despite a very wet bank holiday Monday the girls were not put off and continued with activities such as water zorbing, broadcasting on Scout radio, face painting, piñata making and more.

Rosie from 5th Thornbury Brownies said: “I particularly enjoyed the assault course when I got extremely muddy and wet. I also did abseiling which I have never done before.”

Sophie a Brownies young leader said: “It was great to see the Brownies take part in activities that they may not have done before.”
