A MOTHER and her daughter are appealing for witnesses after their car was badly damaged after a collision in High Street, Thornbury.

A door on the car was badly damaged after it was hit as the door was opened whilst parked at the side of the road.

Liz Wood was in the driver seat of the car when she opened the door to go shopping when the door was hit.

Her daughter, Helen Wood, who has diabetes was in the car at the time and said the ordeal was huge shock:

“One minute mum was opening her car door and then the next I heard this bang.

“There were a lot of witnesses and the first witness that came forward immediately phoned the police.

“She admitted to us that the other driver was too close to us the damage done to mums car is that she needs a new door and a wing!

“For this to have caused so much damage, we feel the other driver was driving too fast.

“If he was going at 20mph we feel there wouldn’t have been so much damage!”

She added that the incident and resulting delays could have been dangerous considering her health conditions:

“We were out for longer than we expected and as a result of this awful accident I had no breakfast. As I'm now diabetic that was a dangerous situation to be in.

“If mum had got out of the car and then the accident happened, I couldn't bear to think about what could have happened then!”

They had only owned the car for two weeks when it was damaged on Friday, August 22 and both Helen and Liz were left shaken by the ordeal.

Both drivers swapped details at the scene but Mrs Wood is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who saw the collision is asked to contact Mrs Wood by calling 01454 885021 or by emailing helen.s.wood@blueyonder.co.uk.
