A THORNBURY pair have raised over £800 for charity after completing the three peaks challenge.

Lee Marshall and Mark Brooks, who work at Thornbury Golf Centre have conquered the final leg of their charity challenge – to cycle 104 miles and complete the Three Peaks Challenge in a combined time of less than 30 hours.

The duo completed the 104-mile bike ride, known as The Wiggle Wye Valley Warrior, and scaled the three peaks, raising more than £800 for The Alzheimer’s Society in the process.

The infamous Three Peaks Challenge requires participants to climb the three tallest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales, which are Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon respectively, in less than 24 hours.

Having completed the cycling leg of their challenge in seven hours and 34 minutes, they had the challenge of climbing a combined height of 20,299ft and driving 500 miles in 22 hours, 25 minutes and 59 seconds or less to reach their target.

Richard Dakin, general manager at Thornbury Golf Centre, said: “We are all very proud of Lee and Mark’s achievements. Their efforts would have been inspirational no matter how long they took doing it, but completing their challenge in less than 30 hours is even more impressive."

Lee added: “We would like to thank our driver, John Palmer, and everybody who has donated for their generosity, support and belief in us. We’re also very grateful to Chris Palmer, who joined us for the three peaks and completed the challenge in a very respectable 26 hours.

“Mark and I are still aching, but very happy to have helped raise so much for such a good cause.”
