THE EFFORTS of the Thornbury in Bloom team were rewarded last night as they were given a gold medal in the Champion of Champions category.

This year Thornbury was put in the Champion of Champions category for their consistently impressive results over the years and was competing again the best In Bloom teams in the South West.

The awards were announced and presented at a special event, held in Trowbridge, which was attended by over 400 members from In Bloom teams across the South West.

Guy Rawlinson, chairman of the Thornbury in Bloom committee said he was pleased with the results.

He said: “This continues our tradition in the In Bloom competition, we’ve regularly won gold and this shows a consistent record of really good results in the competition.

“This year we competed in the champion of champions category, so we were one of the best five towns in the region.

“We were pipped at the post to win overall best in the South West but the result is absolutely great.”

The portfolio, outlining the work done in the town, presented to the judges was also nominated for the Best Judges Portfolio.

The Anchor Inn, in the town, was nominated for the Best Floral Pub category.

The success is very much welcomed ahead of the national awards event in Bristol on Thursday, October 16 when Thornbury will pit itself against the best in the country.
