TWO members of the 6th Thornbury Brownies were invited to attend a special celebration at 10 Downing Street.

As part of this year’s 100th birthday of the Brownie movement a group of 100 Brownies from across the country were invited to attend a Big Brownie Birthday party at 10 Downing Street.

Amongst them were Niamh Mcbride and Jessica Halliday, who both live in Thornbury and both attend Crossways Junior School.

Their Brown Owl, Rebecca Longworth, was asked to select two Brownies to take part in the special celebration.

She said: “They have a lovely attitude and are fantastic representatives of GirlGuiding, they also both have the most wonderful smiles and laughs”.

The pair were part of the Bristol and South West contingent at the party.

Prime Minister, David Cameron was also at the event and chose to sit with the Bristol group – allegedly because of their reputation for good behaviour.

Things did not run so smoothly after the event as the coach broke down and they had to wait in a farmer’s field.

The girls described the experience as “amazing” and something that could only be topped by an invitation to Buckingham Palace.
