GOLD was the word for Almondsbury C of E Primary School who are celebrating after being recognised for its commitment to competitive sport.
The school was awarded the prestigious gold award for the Sainsbury’s School Games Mark.
Over the last year the school has taken part in a range of competitive sporting opportunities including quicksticks hockey, where they reached the county finals, hi-five netball, mixed and girls football, tennis, tag rugby, mixed and girls cricket, boccia and athletics.
The school's headteacher, Paul Smith, said: “As a school we pride ourselves on ensuring the children have a vast array of sporting activities to participate in.
“The children thoroughly enjoy their PE sessions and many extra-curricular opportunities.
“This award recognises this as well as the hard work of the staff who provide high quality PE and sport alongside many different sports coaches. It is a team effort and we are grateful for the support of the parents.”
Mike Diaper, Sport England director of community sport, said:
“The Sainsbury’s School Games is a fantastic way for young people to get into sport and Almondsbury C of E Primary School deserves this recognition for its commitment and dedication to developing the competition at school and in the local community.”
