A BOLD young woman is planning to shave her head as entertainment at her fundraising event to raise funds for children and young people with cancer, and their families.

Sophie Johnson has organised the fundraising evening where she will get up close and personal with the hair clippers on Friday, October 31at 8pm at The Swan Inn in Tytherington.

The 31-year-old who lives in the village, said: “It saddens me to think of everything children with cancer may miss out on during their childhood – I remember running around making dens as a child and wish for every child and young person with cancer to have the freedom to do what makes them happy.

She added: “I decided it was time for me to try and help other children have some kind of normality and be able to experience as much joy as I had, and by supporting CLIC Sargent I hope I can do that.”

Entertainment on the evening will include music from The Honkey Tonks as well as a raffle prize draw including, among other prizes, a 45 minute sports massage, a family of sock monkeys, a Forestry Commission Discovery pass and an auction prize to be the privileged person to shave Sophie’s head!

Also at the Swan will be a representative from ‘The Body Shop at Home’ who will also be helping to raise funds with Sophie at the event.

Hannah Worrall, fundraising manager at CLIC Sargent said: “Sophie’s effort to raise money in this way is extremely inspiring, by becoming a ‘life-shaver’ for CLIC Sargent, we can support more children and young people who need us.”
