A NEW charity shop has been opened in the centre of Thornbury.

Multiple Sclerosis Peoples Help (MSPH) has now begun trading from their second store in the town.

It was officially opened with the help of Dr Kirsty Inglis, a MS specialist from the Bristol Avon MS Centre (BraMS) at Southmead Hospital.

MSPH helps people with MS and offers a free DIY service and carry out such jobs as building ramps for wheelchairs and walking frames, general decorating, gardening and most other needed jobs. The charity also donates funds to BrAMS.

The charity was started by Shaun McCarthy and Roger Wall who both have MS and are wheelchair users and they wanted to help people who have the illness.

Chairman Shaun McCarthy said “Roger suggested opening a shop over three years ago and that led to the existing shop at 9 St Marys Street, selling clothing, bric a brac and some furniture, but because of the amount of furniture that people are donating, the trustees agreed that we should open another shop just for furniture and bric a brac”

The current shop has done extremely well, thanks to Roger his wife Christine and the great team of volunteers that the shop has.

The new shop is just two doors down from the charity’s existing store in St Mary’s Street.

MSPH is asking people to donate furniture, bric a brac, clothing, walking frames, wheelchairs, music centres, books, CDs and most other things.MSPH has a van and collect donations for the shops.

Anyone who wishes to volunteer to either work in the shops or help with DIY jobs for the charity should call 01454 415532.
