FOUR strikingly decorated benches can be found at Marlwood School from this week onwards.

Designed and painted by students from Years 7 to 11, they are one of the outcomes of the school’s new house system launched in September.

Each of the four Houses; named Holt, Berkeley, Kingsley and Witton, have been taking part in a range of competitions that decide on who becomes the House Champions in the summer term.

The benches came as flat-packs and the first competition was for ‘timed assembly’ which was won by Berkeley who managed to assemble their bench in nine minutes.

The best decorated was won by Kingsley for their yellow design and a prize was awarded to Holt for the best individual effort by a Year 7 student.

The benches will now be installed in the Library, Science, Maths and Drama areas.

Head of Kingsley House, Amy Price, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the commitment and skill shown by our students in seeing these projects through.

“It was a great competition because the outcomes go on to benefit the whole school community”
