A RESIDENTS group has given more than £1,000 to brighten up the shop in Tytherington.

Frome Valley Community Action Group donated £1,300 to the Tytherington Village Shop and Post Office to give it a much-needed redecoration.

It was the first time in a decade that the shop had been repainted and store committee chairman Daphne Brown was delighted with the funding.

“The money was gratefully appreciated,” she said. “The shop hadn’t been redecorated since it opened and although we had a lottery grant to improve the outside area we needed to improve the inside.

“We’ve repainted throughout the shop and it now looks really fresh and inviting and people have been saying how good it looks.”

With the new paint dry, Frome Valley members recently dropped in to the shop to have a look round and do a bit of shopping themselves. Group member Sylvia Young said the group was pleased to help the shop.

“The shop is a good example of people coming together and doing their bit to keep their community together. It’s all run by a group of volunteers and they sell lots of local produce, like eggs from a neighbouring farm. But it’s also a place where people go to catch up with one another.

“The shop looks really nice and fresh and inviting now and I hope it will continue to be a useful part of their community.”

Frome Valley Community Action Group is a group of Merlin residents dedicated to supporting projects and communities. Each year Merlin gives the group £10,000 to spend on improving communities in the area.

Tytherington Village Shop and Post Office is a not-for-profit organisation which was set up 15 years ago and is run by volunteers from the village.
