THOUSANDS of pounds was raised by a care home in Thornbury for a charity which supports people living with Alzheimer’s.

Staff from Beech House care home took part in a sponsored walk in October which raised £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The team of 17 walked to Blaise Castle in Bristol and with the help of some generous sponsors they raised a fantastic sum of money for the charity.

Russell Weller, a member of staff at Beech House care home, said: “Working here we really see the effect that Alzheimer’s can have on people.

“We have a dementia suite at the home and working here you can see that this illness can affect anyone at anytime.

Through sponsorship, the team raised £1,777 but with Gift Aid the total amount that was given to the charity was over £2,000.

Mr Weller added: “Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect people living with it, it affects their families and friends and even the staff at Beech House who are working with these people.

All 17 of the people who took part in the sponsored walk are members of staff at Beech House care home.

The Alzheimer’s Society provides support and advice to people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
