HUNDREDS of people attended an information fair in Thornbury to get advice tailored specifically to senior citizens.

The Senior Citizens Fair was organised by prospective Conservative MP Luke Hall and was held on Tuesday, December 9 in the Cossham Hall.

Among those on hand to advise residents on everything from health to heating were Avon Fire and Rescue, The RNIB, Thornbury Stroke Association, The Centre for Sustainable Energy, the Department for Work and Pensions, Troop Aid, the Over 50’s forum and many other local voluntary and professional groups providing free advice and support. Avon and Somerset constabulary were also present to advise on crucial aspects of safety and security in the home.

In anticipation of falling temperatures over the winter months, attendees were also able to attend a free advice session; ‘Getting the best from your energy supplier’, given by staff from The Centre for Sustainable Energy.

Delighted with the success of the event, Luke said: “I am thrilled that so many local residents attended this first Senior Citizens Fair. I would like to thank all of the exhibitors for coming along and sharing their valuable insight and knowledge, and without whom none of this would have been possible.

“Bringing local groups together so that residents can find information and support in one place is something that should be done more regularly.”

Luke is already looking to hold a second Senior Citizens Fair next year in Thornbury and, if elected, hopes to hold many more into the future following positive feedback from those who attended.
