A SURFING lake in Easter Compton has hit its £150,000 fundraising target with a week left to go.

The Wave hit its target on Monday, December 15 and the team is now excitedly waiting to see how much is raised in the campaign's last seven days.

The funds raised will mean that some of the site’s long-term sustainability goals can be completed earlier than planned.

Work on constructing the site is expected to begin in 2015 with the aim of offering the surf facilities to people of all ages and abilities.

Founder of The Wave, Nick Hounsfield, said: "We are completely blown away by the sheer number of people that have got behind our project.

"Thanks to these amazing supporters we have reached our Crowdfunder target with a week to go! With their help we can now kick-start our sustainability aims and make waves of positive change in Bristol.

“We still have a week to go and we can't wait to see if we can really smash the original target.

"There are still some amazing rewards to be snapped up and every bit raised will contribute to making this development a sustainable legacy. Thank you so much."

There are still a number of rewards for people who pledge towards the fundraising campaign.

The Wave team has also announced its Golden Ticket, which will see one lucky purchaser of a limited edition T-shirt win the only lifetime membership to the surf centre.

Two per cent of the money raised will go to the Making Waves Foundation - an independent charitable trust that has been set up to fund community projects and charities in the area.

When the site opens a percentage of annual profits will also go to the foundation and the Trustees will decide how this is distributed.

Additional funds raised by the campaign will be going to push forward some of the project’s sustainability plans, including installing renewable energy technologies during the construction of the site.
