A POPULAR restaurant in the heart of Thornbury has been celebrating a successful first year since opening its doors.

Run by Romy Gill, the restaurant won the “Best Vegetarian” award in the 2014 Bristol Good Food Awards, and Romy has made the shortlist in a number of other award ceremonies over the last year.

The restaurant has now launched its new tiffin service – a traditional Indian tiered metal lunch which is taken to work.

The ones at Romy’s Kitchen consist of four individual stainless steel boxes which are filled with enough food for two people. Two different options are available, a chicken tiffin and a vegetarian choice.

Despite the success of the restaurant's first year Romy is keen not to rest on her laurels and has a number of plans for the restaurant in the future.

She said: “I’ve had a lot of demand from people coming in to the restaurant who have wanted to have takeaway so I decided to introduce the Tiffin service.

“I’ve always wanted to bring tifffins over here,” she added. “I always had tiffins growing up, we would take them to schools and adults would take them into work.

“In India we like to do things in the long term and tiffins would last about 20 years.”

Tiffins are being sold in the restaurant for a one-off charge of £10 and can be brought into the restaurant to be filled up whenever it is open. The vegetarian meal-for-two is priced at £20 and the chicken option is £25.

She added: “Tiffins are much more eco-friendly compared to boxes used for takeaways at other places and it’s something that’s a bit different over here.”

The new service means that the restaurant's popular meals can be brought home for the first time.

A number of plans are being considered to continue to improve the services offered at the reastuarant. For more information visit: http://www.romyskitchen.co.uk/.
