PROGRESS on health care facilities is a welcome notion that Thornbury may soon be able to celebrate.

After more than a decade without advancements in the town, health care facilities will be discussed when Lib Dem health minister Norman Lamb visits the area next month.

The visit, instigated by Yate MP Steve Webb, is a promising sign that health care facilities are a subject of importance and that the barriers holding back progress can and will be acknowledged.

A meeting with Mr Lamb, Mr Webb, key figures from hospitals trusts, the local council and GPs should generate an action plan and we should remain optimistic that soon the much-needed new facilities will be brought to the town.

Changes will be prompted and many could benefit with long-term effects.

The longed-for improvements will solve many problems currently faced by the people of Thornbury when turning to health care professionals in a time of need.

There is a need for modernisation and with a growing population and an increased demand on health facilities, it is imperative that the need is addressed.

We cannot assume these facilities will naturally be implemented and improved and holding discussions to initiate expansion is a welcome step.

Mr Webb said “It is time for action” and when the meeting takes place in February, it is hoped that the time will actually have arrived.
