SPECIALIST officers and police in Islingtonare appealing for a victim of serious sexual assault to contact them following an attack over the weekend.

Police were called to Caledonian Road, N1 near Sturmer Way, N7 at 02.15am on Sunday, March 1 following reports of a rape.

Officers attended and spoke to two members of the public who had detained a man after allegedly catching him sexually assaulting a woman. The man had attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by the two men - one of whom witnessed the attack.

Whilst both men were busy detaining the suspect, the victim has left the scene prior to police arrival.

A further witness has now been traced who spoke to the victim immediately after the attack. They stated the victim had said she was staying with friends in Finchley Central while visiting London for the weekend from Bristol.

The victim of the sexual assault is described as a white woman aged between 22-27 years with curly hair. Police are urging her to contact them immediately.

The 28-year-old man detained by the two men was subsequently arrested by police has now been charged with attempted rape.

The victim and suspect are not believed to be known to each other.
