WAITING restrictions along roads in Thornbury have been given the go-ahead despite concerns that this could lead to commuter parking in nearby residential roads.

Councillors agreed to support proposals to install restrictions in Midland Way, High Street along with a small section in Cooper Road.

Concerns were raised that commuters, dispersed by sections of waiting restrictions in Midland Way would park in nearby residential streets.

A number of residents of Hopkins Close iterated the concerns during the consultation period.

One resident said: “Whilst I fully support the introduction of restrictions along Midland Way, I still have concerns that doing so without establishing some form of residents parking scheme for Hopkins close and Armstrong Way will just result in the displaced vehicles parking in these residential streets.”

In a response to some of the issues raised the council officer said: “The proposals have been designed to endeavour to avoid displacement occurring in the residential roads by implementing short sections of unlimited parking along Midland Way to allow vehicles to remain parked, albeit in a more controlled manner.”

Proposals were agreed by councillors at the meeting of the Severn Vale Area Forum on Wednesday, March 4. It is expected that work should be finished within two months.
