PLANS to renovate Pilning Village Hall have been resubmitted to South Gloucestershire Council.

Initially the proposals included the construction of a new sports hall and function room on the site but these have been removed from the latest application which was deemed a bit "large".

The most recently submitted plans include a complete refurbishment and remodelling of the hall with a new multi-purpose performance area installed.

The hall is used by a number of community groups including a nursery which will receive a new self-contained area and on-site childcare facilities through the plans.

Changing rooms at the hall which are used by a number of sports teams will also receive a revamp to make them compliant with Sport England guidelines, enabling them to host tournaments onsite.

The proposals have been scaled back as it was thought that the development was slightly too large, however the new plans have been designed in a way which could facilitate the construction of the sports hall and function room at a later date.

Cllr Ian Roberts, chairman of Pilning and Severn Beach Parish Council said that the new plans would be a “little bit less expensive”.

“The hall is really in need of these changes, it is well beyond its sell by date," he said. "The hall was built in 1920 and now needs work done which will benefit the whole community.

South Gloucestershire Council raised concerns following the submission of the first application that the additional facilities could attract more traffic to the area than the roads would be able to cope with.

To counter that issue a survey of the car parking plans was carried out and subsequently changes have been made to the layout to reduce the number or cars that can park onsite.

Cllr Roberts added: “The newest application will hopefully meet the standards that were asked following the initial application.

“It has been designed so that everything in the initial plans could be added at a later date but this way everything is a little bit less expensive and not so large.”

South Gloucestershire Council planning officers will now look at the amended proposals and make a decision in the coming weeks.
