TO CELEBRATE more than half a century in the town Thornbury Round Table has launched a new website.

For 55 years the group has offered social opportunities to men between the ages of 18 and 45 to help the engage with the community.

Andrew Hunter the group’s current chairman said: “Our members tend to see an enhanced social life upon joining as well as providing the opportunity to blow off some steam from time to time.

“Great sporting opportunities such as go-karting, clay pigeon shooting, husky racing, cycling at a velodrome, and wheelchair basketball are recent examples.

“On top of that, members often provide the chance to visit interesting places that are not always publicly available and gain unique experiences. Socialising as a tabler is never dull!”

In the last five years Thornbury Round Table has given away over £30,000 to local charities and good causes through its fundraising events.

These include the Mundy Playing Fields fireworks display, escorting Santa on his sleigh at Christmas, supporting schools’ fetes with the RT bouncy castle, and more recently supporting the Carnival in partnership with The Wheatsheaf to run the bar.

Robert Cadman, the group’s newest member, said: “When I went along to table I wasn’t sure what to expect. It is so much better than I imagined, not only do I get to take part in the activities, but I get to really be a real part of the local community by helping at the fundraising events and usually finishing off with a pint in great company.”
