A GENEROUS donation from a garden centre will help bring a splash of colour to a popular bowling club.

Almondsbury Garden Centre donated a selection of plants to Olveston and District Bowling Club to ensure the club grounds look in the best condition for summer.

Club members met with Richard Truscott, marketing manager at the garden centre, to receive the donation along with a cheque for £250 towards the club's new pavilion project.

Originally from Plymouth Hoe, Richard is well aware of the principles of bowling and the enjoyment people get from it.

"Both the club and Almondsbury Garden Centre have been around for over 80 years and it gives us great pleasure supporting Olveston Bowling Club in a way that shows off their premises at its best to their members and visitors,” he said.

"We have built up relationships with a few local clubs over the years but this gift to Olveston matches our pride in our product with their pride in their excellent green."

Ladies captain Liz Ellis was delighted to be part of the presentation team.

She said: "On behalf of all our members, I would like to thank Richard and his team for supporting us in this way.

"Our green keeper and maintenance team work very hard to keep on top of what is recognised within bowling circles as an excellent bowling facility, and these plants are the icing on the cake."

The donation will go towards the club’s project to build a new pavilion which is expected to cost upwards of £150,000. Last month the club signed a £15,000 sponsorship deal with PBF Wealth Management in Bradley Stoke.

"This is a big task for our club and it is a necessary change for our future development going forward," said Richard Bennett, club treasurer.

"We understand the pressures businesses are under in today's climate and we really appreciate this help from Almondsbury Garden Centre."
