A PRIMARY school in Charfield held its annual mini Olympiad sports day last week.

Charfield Primary School’s three teams; Falcon, Kestrel and Merlin battled it out in a day of events ranging from the traditional egg and spoon race to the Nerf Dart throw.

The teams ran, jumped, threw, dribbled, balanced and skipped their way enthusiastically through the whole day; working together to help their team achieve the Charfield Primary School’s Sports Day Champions award.

After an exhausting competition, Merlin narrowly claimed victory in the infant team category.

The infant events were followed by a community picnic with pupils, parents and staff.

In the afternoon the junior pupils battled it out in events throughout the afternoon. Merlin again put in a strong performance, resulting in them winning both the junior and overall champion titles.

Headteacher Dafydd Lawday said: "Sports day is deliberately organised to emphasise our school values; particularly enthusiasm and collaboration. Both infant and junior sessions were fantastic.

“I was very proud of our Year 6 pupils who took responsibility for marshalling the infant events. They did a fantastic job.

“Thank you to our PE subject leader Mr Galsworthy for organising this fantastic day."
