BRIGHT students at a Thornbury secondary school saw their efforts honoured by a gold medal winner at a special end-of-year awards ceremony.

More than 100 awards were presented during the annual Achievement Evening held at The Castle School on Wednesday, July 15.

The event is held at the end of each academic year to celebrate students' achievements at the school.

This year's awards were presented by Commonwealth Games gold medal winner, Megan Fletcher, who taught part-time at The Castle School.

Peter Smart, headteacher at Castle School, said that he was “immensely proud of the students’ achievements” saying that the awards were “a culmination of the hard work put in by The Castle School community over the year.”

Awards were given to 160 pupils from year seven through to year 13. The awards were given for achievement in different subjects as well as contribution to the school community, endeavour, services to The Castle School and a number of team awards.

Amongst the special guests at this year’s event were mayor of Thornbury Guy Rawlinson and the chairman of governors Chris White-Horne.
