BAR OWNERS have teamed up with their local church to host a unique event where talking about death will be made easier.

James Murray and Simon Extance, business partners of Hawkes House, in St Mary Street, will hold ‘Grave Talk’ in their cafe bar next month.

The event will be an informal chat which aims to enable people to talk about death and funerals in a relaxed atmosphere, organised by the pair in conjunction with Thornbury Parish Church.

Mr Murray said the event, held on August 11, will be the first of its kind in the town.

He said: “Part of our role as a neighbourhood cafe bar is to provide spaces for community groups and initiatives to meet up in an informal environment.

“We are looking forward to working alongside the local parish church and the Church of England to put on this event to help those who are about to deal with, currently dealing with or have dealt with any issues regarding death.

“The relaxed atmosphere at Hawkes House should help people to open up and discuss an issue which can be a difficult to broach with family and friends.”

Grave Talk will take place at 6.30pm until around 8.30pm, with food and drinks available all evening.

The pair is also hosting another follow-up event for those that found it helpful, or couldn’t make the evening event on September 29 at 9:30am.
