CHILDREN in Thornbury are celebrating a year of sports achievements and a new kit sponsored by a local business.

Christ the King Catholic Primary School has had a successful year, winning seven trophies through a variety of sporting events, including tag rugby, organised by Thornbury Rugby Club and a local school’s tennis tournament.

The school, in Easton Hill Road, has been rewarded for their hard work and talents with a new sports kit for pupils in Key Stage Two, donated by sponsors Penny Smith and Rowena Moncrieffe, owners of estate agents Bonds of Thornbury.

Headteacher Mary Mainwaring said: “The children are so proud of their new kit and we are so grateful to Bonds of Thornbury’s generosity towards the children.”

The children’s sports achievements over the past year also include a school hockey, cross country and a cricket tournament.

Mrs Moncrieffe said: "We have always tried to help local groups when we can and we were pleased to support the school in buying the sports kit.

"We believe they have been very successful to date in all their sporting activities and wish them continued success."
