OVER 400 people have supported the Gazette’s campaign to build a new M4 junction near Westerleigh.

The Gazette launched a petition last month, in conjunction with Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall, for a junction 18a connecting the M4 with the A4174 Avon Ring Road.

So far, 413 people have already signed the online petition and spoken in favour of the new junction, which would be located close to the Lyde Green roundabout for Westerleigh and Emersons Green on the Avon Ring Road.

Mr Hall said: “It is excellent to see such strong local support for junction 18a.

"The Gazette has made a real difference, adding to the momentum of the campaign, but there is still time to sign the petition, so I would urge everybody who wants to see this junction built to sign it now.

"If we want our infrastructure to match our ambition, this junction is a vital part of South Gloucestershire's future."

South Gloucestershire Council has agreed to fund an £80,000 feasibility study and an independent study is being carried out and will be launched at the House of Commons on September 16.
