YOUNG dancers in Alveston are preparing to perform on the big stage for a London charity event.
Thirty-six dancers from Sharon Philips School of Dancing, based at the Jubilee Hall, Youth Centre and St Helen’s School, are rehearsing for the big performance next month.
The event, organised by Young Performers, will see the students aged between 11 and 18-year-old perform two routines and raise money for various children’s charities in the process.
Principal and owner of the school which is also based in Patchway, Sharon Philips, said: “We are taking the students up to London to perform at Her Majesty’s Theatre – where Phantom of the Opera is based, on September 20.
“They will perform a traditional and classical ballet piece and also a hoedown, Western modern piece.
“It is an amazing opportunity for the children to be given the chance to dance in a London theatre and we are so proud of them and their hard work.
“The group has raised thousands of pounds for charity in the past, so it’s good that they can help again while dancing on the stage.
“It’s a big thing to organise – we will have coaches of dancers, teachers and parents coming up.”
